| Infra-Red and White-Light
Illuminators Today's CCTV cameras are very good
when it comes to seeing in low light conditions. Colour cameras quite often
change into monochrome and boost their sensitivity. True day/night cameras
switch to monochrome and automatically remove an infra-red cut filter to
make them more sensitive to reflected infra-red light.

Infra-red Illuminator |
However,
to actually see satisfactorily in complete darkness requires using either
infra-red lighting which does not cause light pollution to the surrounding
environment and has a degree of covertness; or using white light.
When we design systems to work with infra-red lighting we
carefully match the characteristics of the camera, the lens (ir corrected)
and the power and radiation pattern of the illuminator.
The choice depends on the application but Camtek
Surveillance recommend adaptive infra-red or white lighting by Raytec. They
are semi-conductor illuminators using the latest LED technology, flexible
and reliable with a 5 year warranty. They run at low power and use Cool
Running™ technology.

Distances
covered are up to 300 m for infra-red and 100 m for white
light.
